Note: this is not the only ghost story.... others will be added indue time. Thank you.

Throughout the Ghost Stations Series we have reference to Nigger, Wing Commander Guy Gibson's black Labrador dog and, the mascot of No.617 Dam Busters Squadron. Indeed, as you may recall, Mrs Jan Thorpe mentions Nigger in the Ghost Squadrons at R.A.F. Scampton. But Nigger's death is a mystery and was I have no doubt, maliciously killed for that is why so many people see the ghost dog. It has to be, for the more I thought about it the stranger it became. It does not ring ture, and I, as former Royal Air Force Military Police (Nuclear and Chemical Weapons) Provost Special Security, cannot and do not accept the silly childish stories put forward. We have all seen - if not I strongly recommend that you do so - the Dam Busters film, with Richard Todd, where Nigger is seen running around the station buildings of R.A.F. Scampton looking for his master, Wing Commander Guy Gibson, and Erks turning the dog away saying 'No he's not in here.' Nigger is then seen running from the Guardroom - through the open main gates and on to the main A15 Lincoln road where a car runs him down. That is not possible to be able to run through the open main gates. Let me explain, for we are now talking about security; my field, of which I was Number One; see Ghost Stations The Story. During the final days of preparation for Operation 'Chastise', the code name for the higly-secret operation, for which, No.617 had been specially formed, R.A.F. Scampton was on maximum security. The station was sealed. The main gates were closed and locked - repeat, closed and locked. Not even a mouse able to get in or out. No one was allowed in or out. No telephone calls could be made. No telegrams could be sent. All leave cancelled. Armed sentries patrolled by the Guardroom. This was, of course, usual practise in wartime for all bomber airfields when Ops were on; but, this night at R.A.F. Scampton was very, very special and extra patrols would seal the camp extra tight ... watertight. As all dog owners know, a dog has a sixth sense - and Nigger was no exception to the rule. He was an intelligent dog, just like Bobby that you can read about in this book, and Ming the Faithful in my other Ghost Stations books. Gibson was in the final briefing that night, and Nigger would have known exactly where he was. The dog would have sensed that something big was 'on' and been very, very close to his master.

So now we must ask three serious questions:

            1) Why was Nigger not with his Master?

            2) Why was Nigger left outside?

            3) Why was Nigger not with Gibson's batman?

Nigger did not go through the main gates. They were locked; and even if they had been open; why would Nigger have wanted to cross the road? There is only a field, even to this day. He had never done so before. It was said that the car that ran Nigger down did not even stop. If the gates were sealed - And they were. How did they recover Nigger? It all stinks and does not ring ture. It is all so very strange and I do not believe one word of the original story or, how Nigger is shown to have been killed in the film Dam Busters. Total rubbish. No one has mentioned it before - So think about it. There is a cover-up as to how Nigger died. So what did happen to poor old Nigger? According to John Sweetman's book, The Dam Busters Raid, the driver and passenger of the car were injured in a vain attempt to avoid Nigger. Yet we are told they did not stop! Remember this is an operational airfield in wartime Britain. What if they had been spies? It is saboteurs were in the ranks. Where were the Station MPs? The more I think about it, the stranger it gets and, I am certain that you will now ask yourself the same question that I have asked - How did Nigger really die? Well I will now tell you; and the first person to do so and in print here for the first time. Gibson had many enemies and one way of bringing him down was to kill Nigger just before the all important raid they had trained so hard for and were now all keyed up ready. Someone on R.A.F. Scampton killed Nigger, in order to sabotage Gibson's vital mission. It would cause unrest and fear that their aircraft had also been tampered with, or worse.
